Do you remember when?

 

• 1913 - Dr. Fones establishes the first Dental Hygiene school

 

• 1914 - First graduating class of Dental Hygiene

 

• 1917 - Irene Newman, first women to become a licensed Dental Hygienist

 

• By the 1920’s six states had licensed Dental Hygienists

 

• By 1921 New Zealand Dental Nurses, which we now call the dental therapists- were trained to go into schools and provide basic care to children

 

• 1923 -The American Dental Hygiene Association is organized with 46  members

 

• By 1938 the nylon toothbrush is on the market with synthetic bristles

 

• By 1944 the average Dental Hygiene salary was $20-$25 per week

 

• 1945 - Forsyth School for Dental Hygiene in Boston was founded Grand Rapids Michigan, first city to implement community water fluoridation.

 

• 1st Gracey Currette by Dr. Clayton Gracey with Hufriedy’s Founder, Hugo Friedman

 

• 1955- Proctor & Gamble, first to add fluoride to Crest toothpaste

 

• 1957- first ultrasonic introduced

 

• 1958- first fully reclining dental chair introduced

 

• 1959- first automatic toothbrush by GE
