RIDHA, RDH OF THE YEAR - Trisha Cloutier, CDA, RDH, BS, MA
Trisha A. Cloutier, CDA, RDH, BS, MA is an Associate Professor in Dental Hygiene at Bristol Community College where she is the Sophomore Clinical Coordinator and Public Health Educator. As Student Advisor for the student chapter of ADHA, the BCC Dental Hygiene Club, she has coordinated many fundraising events to enable students to attend professional conferences in Boston, MA, participation in numerous Health/Wellness Fairs, Give Kids a Smile Day, and BCC Career Days. She has organized student involvement with other BCC clubs to benefit needy families in the Greater Fall River area by participating in Holiday Food and Toy Drives. Trisha and her students have organized an Annual BCC Dental Hygiene Club 5K Walk/Run which has earned funds for DH students to use to help defray the cost of their Community Oral Health Projects and has established the club as Bronze Sponsors of the Oral Cancer Foundation.
As a Service Learning (Civic Engagement) Educator at BCC, she has been recognized every year since 2008 for her work with students and faculty partners to promote and coordinate student learning with community organizations; and in 2009 she was awarded the Service Learning Faculty Award. Hosted by the Department of Higher Education in Massachusetts in 2014, she was selected to explore service-learning in the Dental Hygiene curriculum where she served as the faculty representative for the state on a panel at the first Civic Learning Conference at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate in Boston.
Trisha graduated from the Community College of Rhode Island with a Certificate in Dental Assisting in 1987, AAS in Dental Hygiene and AA in General Studies in 1991. She continued her education at the University of Rhode Island obtaining her BS in Dental Hygiene in 2000 and MA in Adult Education in 2007. In the August 2010 issue of Family Circle Magazine she and her family were recognized for their many contributions made through community service and volunteerism in the Town of Bristol, RI where she resides.
She has been the Continuing Education Chair for the Rhode Island Dental Hygienists’ Association since 2013 and in 2014 became a Curriculum Evaluator with the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation. She practiced in general and periodontal practice for 20 years and has published and presented at conferences, including invitations to present to an international audience through the Colgate Oral Health Network. Most recently Trisha has been appointed to the Colgate Dental Educators Network Advisory Board for 2016-17. In addition to the professional development courses taken in her area of expertise, she has taken courses in leadership, business, and technological advances in dentistry and dental hygiene.
